Elect Dr. DJ Torres
DPS School Board- District 3
Restoring Public Trust in Public Schools.
To do this, I will focus on five priorities…
1. Expand safety and mental health supports
Every student should feel safe, seen, and supported every day. I believe mental health and physical safety are non-negotiable values in education. That’s why I will champion school-based mental health services, inclusive and secure learning environments, and clear, transparent standards for district leadership. Belonging isn’t a bonus—it’s the baseline for learning.
2. Ensure equity in resources and opportunity
Every student deserves access to high-quality learning, enrichment, and support that meets their individual needs and dreams. I believe equity isn’t about giving students the same—it’s about removing barriers so every learner can reach their full potential. That means investing in the right tools, strong instruction, and inclusive programs in every school.
3. Fight for fair compensation & budget stability
Educators are the foundation of our schools, and we must value their work with competitive pay and the stability they deserve. I believe long-term, sustainable funding is critical to retain experienced staff and give schools the ability to plan ahead—not just survive year-to-year. When we invest in educators, we invest in student success.
4. Support immigrants and vulnerable students
Our schools must be places where every student feels safe, valued, and able to thrive—especially those navigating the challenges of immigration, displacement, or vulnerability. These students bring resilience, diversity, and unique perspectives that enrich our classrooms. I believe we must affirm their identities, protect their rights, and provide the resources they need to succeed. When we support them, we strengthen the entire community.
5. Protect schools from closures and community disruption
School closures have lasting effects on students, families, and neighborhoods. I believe these decisions must be guided by transparency, trust, and authentic community engagement. Schools are more than buildings—they are anchors of stability, identity, and opportunity. Any decision to close a school must prioritize the well-being of students and honor the voices of those most impacted.
